What is Nothing But Stick Figures?
āNothing But Stick Figuresā is a webcomic made by some weirdo only known as āian=)ā – Published every single freakinā day since February 20th, 2016.
Itās about two stick figures, one tells awful jokes and the other one reacts. Ok maybe thatās an oversimplification, but really itās just a simple stick figure comic with my own flare added to it. Boy, I am not doing myself justiceā¦
How old are you?

Why did you create Nothing But Stick Figures?
Honestly, thereās not a huge gigantic reason why. I just wanted to try making a webcomic, and since (at least at the time) I drew stick figures all the time, I figured this could be a webcomic. Lo and behold, 2,000+ comics later, here we are! I donāt really draw stick figures much anymore outside this comic, but I absolutely still love to draw lots of other things and will continue doing so!
Why do you draw so poorly?
Because.
What are the stick figuresā names?
Good question.
How long do these usually take?
Depends. Although Iāve observed lately (late 2021 and 2022) that they usually take, like, 15 to 30 minutes. But of course, it depends.
Whatās with their heads?!
One time I was drawing stick figures on a whiteboard, and I accidentally drew a non-closed circle for a head. I thought, āHey, you know, I think this could make my stick figures look visually distinct.ā And I went with it. =)
What is that font, and why is it the default font?
The font is āKristen ITCā. The reason behind the font choice actually traces back to a little before Nothing But Stick Figuresās existence. For a few months in 5th grade (2015-2016), my teacher let me draw some comics on the Promethean Board. She had the font set on Kristen ITC every time.
When I started NBSF, I used Kristen ITC as a little tribute to those proto-comics. Btw, those comics are lost unfortunately, as this was years ago and I have no way of accessing them.

What do you draw with?
Well, from comics 1 through 1,047, I used my desktop computer. For Christmas 2016, I got a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet! I used it for every comic until 1,047. Starting with 1,048 up until 1,079, I wanted to see if I could do my comic from a different room without a desktop, so I could possibly have the making of NBSF be more portable: I used a Chromebook that had a touchscreen and used a super cool app called jspaint.app. It didnāt have the font I needed, so I had to upload the comic to postimg.cc, type in the postimg url, download the image on my desktop, and theeeeen I could replace the Arial font with the Kristen ITC font.
That all changed when, on Feb 3, 2019, I got a Windows laptop, the Surface Go! So starting with comic 1,079, I used a touchscreen with Windows on it to draw the comics, and I still do that to this very day! I used that thing to make comics from 1,079 all the way to 1,841. The Surface Go started kinda going on a decline at that point and I couldnāt use it as one of my daily drivers anymore, so in March 2021, I got a new, superior Windows laptop (no offense, Surface!) which is the Lenovo Yoga C940. I still use the C940 to this very day! The very first C940 comic was 1,842.

How do you come up with ideas for these?
Two things.
- I have a list of ideas, and the dates Iāll use them. Sometimes I make up an idea on the day I create a comic though.
- Sometimes lightbulbs fall on my head. It actually feels pretty good, because that means I got me an idea!
Where does Nothing But Stick Figures take place?
Whitebackgroundland. Or Whitebackgroundopolis, depending on where you live in the Whitebackgroundish area.
What program do you use to draw?
Please donāt pelt tomatoes at me for this, but I use Microsoft Paint. Yes. However, for those who diss me for this, please know that itās about the artist, not the tool. If someone can make the Mona Lisa in an older version of Paint, then thatās because of the artist NOT the tool.

So what is “Nothing But Stick Figures” you may ask? Well, I wanted to make my own (mostly) daily webcomic, and I mostly draw stick figures, so I made this webcomic! I hope you enjoy it š
I already mentioned that my name is Ian, but what I didn’t mention was that I’m 17 years old! I published my first comic on Feb 20, 2016; that means I’ve been doing this comic since I was 11.
